Keep in mind, though, that even though it helps you with perspective you still need to know how perspective works to get the most out of it. The perspective tool is the best I've used out of any program. Sketchbook Pro has some great features, too. I love it, particularly for sketching which feels incredible when you turn the cursor off (Almost like you're drawing on paper), but it's definitely more suited as an addition to the arsenal and not as the sole art program used. It doesn't have nearly as many features as manga studio, and there isn't a whole lot to speak of in terms of brushes. However, that simplicity is also the thing that should keep you away from it if it's going to be your only art program. Mischief has some amazing features, and it's incredibly simple. That said, as an all-in-one program it is lacking things that I'd consider to be important for digital-style techniques and workflows. You can mimic the look of oil paint and impasto better in Artrage (desktop version) than in any other program I've used (Including painter). They're very high quality, and he sells his entire brush pack for 8.99 euro (162 brushes).Īn analysis on the other programs, just because.Īrtrage, while a lovely app, is more focused on producing a 'realistic' painting experience. I highly recommend Daub's manga studio brushes. They'll get the job done, but you're much better off making some of your own or buying a brushpack. That said, Manga Studio's default brushes are nothing to write home about. I do recommend getting it from the Japanese dev as Clip Studio Paint, however, as Clip Studio Paint gets updates more quickly than Manga Studio 5, and you're directly supporting the developers. To top all of this off, Manga Studio 5 also has the best support for touch and tablet pc's. Manga Studio is also the only one that will give you (almost) all of the necessary stuff from photoshop if you're planning on taking advantage of many digital-only techniques (Adjustment layers, gradient maps, etc). Frankly, I even prefer it over photoshop, as the color mixing brushes are actually usable without insane amounts of lag. Manga Studio's brush engine surpasses pretty much everything out there. If you're only getting ONE of them, I'd definitely recommend Manga Studio 5. I've used almost every program out there, and spent several months trying to find what best fit my surface pro 3. Here's a wall of text, detailed answer for you.
